Hip Impingement is thought to be a precursor to osteoarthritis of the Hip and so if it is diagnosed and is causing symptoms, then treating the condition is appropriate. The treatment of Hip Impingement consists of removing the bony bump and therefore can only be done surgically. Other treatments modalities such as physiotherapy, osteopathy and chiropractic methods will not resolve this problem.

Hip Impingement Surgery can be invasive, with dislocation of the hip and removal of the bump to create a spherical head or with the advancement of technology, this can now be done by hip arthroscopy (keyhole hip surgery).

This arthroscopic technique is associated with a much quicker recovery as the hip is put on traction and not dislocated. Only small incisions are used to minimise muscle and capsular damage.
